Joey Coulter Returns to NASCAR in Whelen Modified Series

2/9/2022 Joey Coulter Returns to NASCAR in Whelen Modified Series

(Troutman, NC) Miami Springs, FL native Joey Coulter will return to NASCAR competition during Speedweeks on February 12th at New Smyrna Speedway in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour (NWMT) season opener. Coulter’s will pilot the No. 02 AirShok, Race-Fan, Drive Refine, SRI, Draco Springs entry for Coulter Motorsports for his debut in NASCAR’s most storied series.

The former NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race winner, and veteran of 91 starts in the series, is eyeing a schedule of roughly half the 2022 NWMT campaign, including Richmond Raceway, New Hampshire Motor Speedway, and events at Thompson Speedway. Coulter’s modified plans also consist of select starts in the Southern Modified Auto Racing Tour to round out a preliminary schedule of roughly 15 races. After the season opener on Saturday night, Coulter will keep the 02 at New Smyrna to compete in the Tour Modified portion of the World Series of Asphalt Racing.

“The time is right for us to go modified racing”, Coulter said. “We’ve dabbled with it over the last couple years, but we want to make it a priority in 2022. Winning at Florence Speedway in 2020 then having a strong 3rd place run at Caraway gave us the confidence in our program to run some Tour races this season. I am really excited to have Harold Holly back on top of the pit box at a pavement track. We have had and will continue to have success on dirt, but I feel like we are going to revive some of that connection we had back in the Truck series days at RCR.”

Additional updates on Coulter’s modified race dates and dirt late model plans with Rum Runner Racing will be available on www.JoeyCoulter.com at a later date.
