December 14th, 2016 (Troutman, NC)- Joey Coulter and Rum Runner Racing will be running a special scheme this weekend during the VP Fuels Gateway Dirt Nationals. Coulter is set to graduate from UNC Charlotte this weekend, but instead of walking with his classmates, he has made the trip to St. Louis, cap and gown in hand. This weekend, the No. 49 will be on the side of the Rum Runner Racing XR-1 Rocket, along with the Charlotte 49ers Athletics Pickaxe.

It has been a long hard road to graduation for Coulter. When he began at UNC Charlotte in August of 2008, he was accepted into the Williams States Lee College of Engineering, to pursue a mechanical engineering degree. By 2013, Coulter realized that engineering was not for him. After a semester off, he enrolled in the Belk College of Business and has now earned a Bachelors degree in Operations and Supply Chain Management.

Coulter had this to say about choosing to race this weekend. “It was a hard decision to make. Finally graduating is a big deal to me and it really does mean a lot. I made the decision to race because racing is my career. I have always had to balance racing, education, and for the past few months, being a dad.”

Racing inside The Dome at the Americas Center is going to be yet another first time experience for everyone at Rum Runner Racing. As usual, everyone is ready for the challenge, and feels much of what was learned this season can be applied.
