2014 Martinsville Truck Race Preview

3/24/2014 2014 Martinsville Truck Race Preview

CHASING THE CLOCK: Joey Coulter returns to Martinsville (Va.) Speedway for the seventh time in his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series career. In his six previous starts, Coulter has two top-five finishes and completed 98.4% of laps contended. Coulter’s career-best finish at the Virginia short track came in the fall of 2012, where the driver finished third in a Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet.

DRIVE HAPPY: Alamo Rent A Car will adorn the sides of Joey Coulter’s No. 21 Chevrolet Silverado for this weekend’s Kroger 250 at Martinsville Speedway. Based in St. Louis, Missouri, Alamo Rent A Car, the largest car rental provider to international travelers visiting North America, is a value-oriented, internationally recognized brand serving the rental needs of airport leisure travelers. Alamo offers low rental rates and a hassle-free customer experience at the most popular travel destinations throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Latin America and Asia.

TEST 1, 2, 3: Two weeks ago, Coulter and his No. 21 team tested at Caraway (N.C.) Speedway in preparation for Saturday’s Truck Series race at Martinsville.

SLINGIN’ MUD: During the break in Truck Series action, Coulter has competed in numerous dirt late model races across the south. Coulter’s most recent event came last Saturday at 441 Speedway in Dublin, Georgia. The 23-year-old plans to compete in a total of 20 dirt late model races during the 2014 season.

CHASSIS INFORMATION: GMS Racing will bring Chassis No. 021 to Martinsville Speedway. This is the same chassis Ty Dillon drove last fall during the Truck Series event at the ‘Paperclip.’ Dillon started from the fifth position and crossed the finish line in 22nd-place.

DAYTONA RECAP: One month ago during the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season opener at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, Coulter started the NextEra Energy Resources 250 from the fifth position. After running single-file for the first half of the event, Coulter moved into the outside lane with defending Truck Series Champion Matt Crafton. On lap 73, a 16-truck accident occurred directly in front of Coulter and prematurely ended the day for the No. 21 Allegiant Travel team. Coulter finished in the 32nd position.

Joey Coulter on racing at Martinsville Speedway:
“I’m really looking forward to getting back to the track this weekend. The break between the first two races has allowed Jeff (Stankiewicz, crew chief) and my GMS Racing team to work hard at the shop to get our No. 21 Alamo Rent A Car Chevrolet ready for Martinsville. We had a really good test a couple weeks ago at Caraway to shake down our truck and everything felt pretty good. As long as we stay out of other people’s troubles during the race, I think we will have a successful weekend.”
