Joey Coulter made his racing debut in 1998 racing go-karts at West Coast Kart way in Naples, Florida. In 1999, Joey entered the national circuit in the WKA Horstman Gold Cup series while still competing in the Florida WKA Championship series. In his first six years of racing go-karts Joey recorded more than 50 wins, brought home over 100 trophies and won two State Championships. He also managed to win the CJ Marvin Sportsman of the year award in 2000 for being the driver with the best sportsmanship all year. Joey continued racing go-karts through 2005 when he eventually won the Summer Nationals at the G & J Kartway in Camden, Ohio. That same year he also finished runner-up for the National Championship and won both state championships in Florida running Briggs Junior light and heavy, while winning the Naples championship for the second year in a row.
Joey added the Florida FASTRUCK series to his resume in late 2005 where he earned four top-fives in his first four starts, including a second place finish in the kid’s division. The following year Joey would move up to the FASTRUCK Pro division competing against veterans twice his age. In his first eight races Joey won four events and finished fifth in the championship standings. Joey lost the Rookie of the Year honors by five points the same year due to a DNF and missing one event.
In 2007 at the age of 16 Joey would move to the USAR Hooters Pro Cup series which would be his first time in a stock car. After testing all winter Joey qualified for his first race inside the top 20 at USA International Speedway in Lakeland, FL and finished with a top 20. Since then Joey has competed in the Pro Cup series and the NACSAR Whelen All American Late Model series and has recorded an impressive four front row starts, six top-fives and 15 top-tens.
Coulter really started gaining attention in 2007 & 2008 by finishing in the top-ten multiple times throughout the Carolinas and Virginia, including top-tens at the 2007 Thanksgiving Classic at Kenly and the Baileys 300 at Martinsville Speedway. In addition, Coulter finished fourth at the Iowa Speedway Pro Cup Championship series event.
Coulter got his first stock car victory in December of 2008 at Southern National Raceway Park in Kenly, NC.
When not on the racetrack, Coulter likes to go fishing and boating.
This year Joey is a rookie driver in the ARCA RE/MAX Series and competing in multiple super late model events throughout the Southeast.
